WorldBuild Moscow/MosBuild 2018 round-up: highlights of Russia's largest trade exhibition of building and finishing materials

 

The largest construction exhibition in Russia WorldBuild Moscow/MosBuild2018 has finished. According to official statistics, the exhibition attracted more than 1,200 participants from 40 countries. The exhibition space covered 80,000 square metres. More than 65,000 visitors from 83 regions visited the exhibition to conclude new transactions and communicate with their partners.

Traditionally companies use the exhibition to debut their new collections and this year was no exception. A number of companies showcased new products at the trade show. Some of the innovations were submitted as entrants for the WorldBuild Awards, which were held for the first time this year. The awards attracted significant interest from companies and we expect they will have a great future.

At stands companies organised fascinating programmes, invited experts and famous people to attract even more attention to their companies and products. For example, MIR used its stand to display a collection of the Slava Zaitzev brand, while Philipp Kirkorov turned up in person at the standard of the shoe manufacturer Fipar — but not as a singer. He was there as co-designer of the new collection.

However, it goes without saying that in addition to standard entertainment programmes, we organised serious events where industry experts discussed the most topical issues today and listened to the views of their colleagues. Over 130 Russian and foreign speakers spoke in the business programme of the exhibition. Some events, for example, the international forum Facades 360° and the forum “The issues and prospects for developing the market of building and finishing materials and the DIY trade” lasted the whole day.

This year the organisers invited foreign designers to the exhibition. A number of the designers delivered their own master classes. For example, the Danish architect Kees Kaan spoke at the conference “Trends in architecture and building technologies”, while the well-known Portuguese designer Nini Andrade Silva took part in the HoReCa discussion, and the famous designer Jonas Pettersson, CEO of the studio Form Us With Love, talked about himself and his creativity as part of the Design Lab project.

We also tried out some new unconventional formats in the business programme. For example, we set up a special interactive platform Know How Café where company representatives and world class designers spoke. The events proceeded non-stop. On the first day the manufacturers or bathroom fixtures and various materials talked about their innovations and specifics governing their use. The well-known design critic Olga Kosyreva was the moderator. On the second day the participants discussed issues ranging from energy efficiency to new trends in construction. Valeriya Mozganova, Head of Real Estate at the Business FM radio station, moderated a round table with developers and designers.  Incidentally, all the leading mass media in this industry attended the exhibition. A number of them were information partners of the exhibition’s business programme events.

One special event also included an unconventional format — a tour. Well-known designers were transformed for a while into guides and took visitors on a tour of the exhibition, drawing their attention to innovations and interesting design solutions.

 

 

Industry master classes, discussions and even design battles were also organised as part of the business programme. The main achievement of the programme this year was its focus on all market participants: from developers, architects and suppliers to the end consumers of products and services on show at the exhibition. And we came away with the impression that they were all pleased.
