Pipeline solutions boosting eco-credentials in Danish permaculture village. In the scenic Danish countryside, just south of Copenhagen, a visionary new project is currently in full swing. Permatopia is a brand-new eco-village designed as a settlement that coexists in harmony with the environment.
The village is based on the principles of permaculture, a term deriving from permanent agriculture, which encompasses renewable energy, a circular economy, and self-sufficiency.
Permatopia, consisting of 90 terraced cottages and a farm, will therefore be heated entirely from geothermal energy. A geothermal heat pump, powered by a wind turbine and connected to a heat accumulator, will provide the villagers with hot water all year round. But creating heat in this economical and environmentally friendly way is only half the battle; it also needs to be delivered with a little waste as possible to every house.
The Flexaxel prefabricated and pre-insulated pipeline solutions from Termaflex have been selected for transporting hot water for household use and for the heating systems. The Flexaxel system is a Cradle to Cradle Certified™ product, ensuring its materials are safe for humans and the environment, and can be reused, recycled, or composted. Those looking to move in to Permatopia, such as Kai Hansen, have praised the use of closed-cycle products: "It is very important to avoid irresponsibly using our planet’s limited resources, and think of future generations."
The system also reduces labour costs with its modern pipeline connection technology that can be installed quickly, safely, and efficiently. The Flexalink connectors, that hook up the houses to the heating supply network quickly and conveniently, were delivered to the construction site in packages numbered for each house. They reduce the amount of welding and excavation work on site and are extremely light.
According to Steven Zoega from installation company John Jensen VVS, "The system is flexible and comfortable, everything is made to order and assembled. This massively simplifies our job and saves a lot of time. It also improves working conditions, reduces physical loads and can be installed very quickly."
This reliable and easy-to-use solution demonstrates how realistic it is to switch to renewable energy sources, while maintaining high levels of comfort and, importantly, reducing energy bills.
